Liftmaster opener safety sensors: garage door won’t close
One of the main reasons for a garage door not closing is a problem with the sensors. Usually located close to the floor, the LED sensors have a beam between them to detect movement and if something is blocking the beam path, the sensors will report for the garage door opener to not close. This feature is a safety must for every garage door opener.
So, if your garage door is refusing to close you have to follow the guidelines to troubleshoot the problem. Notice: Always turn the power to the opener off, when you are attempting repairs.
Check for any subject between the sensors
It seems common sense, but sometimes you have a subject in front of the sensors, that impedes the beams from connecting and sends a message to the opener that the garage door won’t close by that. When the light beam is obstructed or the safety reversing sensors are misaligned the garage door opener will flash 10 times. If there is nothing there, move to the next step:
Clean the sensors
If there is dust, debris, cobwebs or tape accumulated in the sensors, you should wipe them down with a cloth to free the beam. If the sensors are clean, you should now to re-align the sensors:
Realign the sensors
The receiver should have a green glow, if there is an orange or flashing light, it is very likely that you need to realign them.
- Loosen the wing nut and adjust the position of the sensor until the green LED glows steadily.
- Then, tighten the wing nut again. You can now close the door with your remote.
Check the wires
After all the steps, check the wires connecting the sensors if the garage door is still not closing. The 16-gauge wire connects the sensors to the opener, which is powered by the electrical system in your home. Make sure that your system is plugged in all the way and transmitting the power to your opener.

If your remote control is not working, you can have many causes that may impede your control from working properly. When you install a garage door opener, you have to make sure that the remote controls are programmed according to the owner’s manual instructions. The lock switch system is activated
Check if your wall button lock is activated. Some wall mounts won’t open if the lock is activated. Either the flash will light or the screen will have a code stating that the lock is activated. In many cases, all you need to do is press and hold the lock button for 2 seconds.
Dead batteries
Replace the batteries of your remote, which usually last for around 3 years. If the remote still doesn’t work after changing the batteries, you must test a different remote control.
